Making do
Christmas is Erick's favorite time of the year. Around Halloween, he started talking about how excited he is to get a Christmas tree. Every week, he would ask, "When are we going to get our tree?" "The weekend after Thanksgiving." I would say. "And we're going to watch the Grinch, and It's a Wonderful Life, right?" "Yes."
"And Charlie Brown Christmas?" "Yes."
"And we're going to stay home on Christmas day and cook a goose?" "Yes!"
As Thanksgiving got closer, we had this conversation at least once a day.
For those of you who don't know, Erick is my husband, not a little kid, but he gets like a little kid when it comes to Christmas. I love that about him.
The bummer thing is that Erick is working seven days a week during December, just part of the joys of being in the retail business. So Cary and I don't get to spend as much time with him as we'd like. To try to make up for that, we've been visiting him at work:
And we've been enjoying our time at home in the evenings:
In this photo, Erick is telling Cary how much he loves Christmas, and how nice our Christmas tree is, and how good it smells. He may also be mentioning that we're going to stay at home on Christmas day and cook a goose.
We're enjoying the holiday season, but at the same time, we'll be really glad when things are back to normal. We'll celebrate with our family Christmas eve, then Christmas Day we're going to lock our doors and turn off the phone, and (did I mention?) roast a goose, and have some time with just the three of us. We're looking forward to that.
